• The provider contacts you to talk about your project.
• They may set a visit to measure and look at your home.
• You get a written quote.

What to Ask a Provider

Good questions make a big difference. Here are some to try, with what a good answer sounds like.

• Are you licensed and insured where I live? A good answer is a clear yes. They should be happy to share proof.
• Who will be in my home? Good answers name who does the work, whether it is their crew or a sub-contractor.
• What is in the quote? Look for materials, labor, cleanup, and permits listed line by line.
• How long will it take? A good provider gives a range and explains what could change it.
• Can I see past work? Photos or addresses you can check are a good sign.

• A big push to sign today
• A quote that is only spoken
• A request for a large payment before work starts
• Vague answers about materials
